Grandma Lucy’s : The Ultimate GMO Free Instant Dog Food

Grandma Lucys, Grandma Lucys Review, Pureformance, Freeze Dried Dog Food, Organic Dog Food, Grain Free Dog Food

We’ve had the opportunity to test out some great products from Grandma Lucy’s over the past 2 months, and now I’m here to tell you all about our love affair with them.

We take our testing very seriously, and that’s why we took a solid two months to make our conclusion about Grandma Lucy’s dog food. Did we love it because it was tasty and nutritious? Or was it tasty, nutritious and easy to prepare…?

Grandma Lucy’s is a US based company that specializes in making easy to prepare, wholesome dog foods. Their instant freeze dried foods are made with Human-Grade ingredients in their California facility, and offer grain free recipes that feature hormone and antibiotic free meats.

We had the opportunity to review their Artisan and Pureformance dog foods, as well as their Organic dog treats.

Oh my goodness, do I looooove this food. When I get up in the morning to make my coffee, it takes literally seconds to prepare a bowl of Grandma Lucy’s for my dog, Bachaesh. A quick scoop of food, and a dash of hot water and voila!

Not only was the food incredibly easy to make, but it was easy to travel with. We live a very busy lifestyle. We’re rarely home on weekends, and Bachaesh is always out with us. However, he becomes a picky eater when he’s not in familiar surroundings. So, we have to rely on a food that we can count on him to eat–especially when we’re in a rush to get out the door. Bachaesh loves his Grandma Lucy’s food so much, that he goes to sit in front of it in the pantry, and waits there until we make him some.

Pureformance, Grandma Lucys Pureformance

Pureformance was the first bag of food that we tried (and finished off, completely!). We were sent the Rabbit flavour and Bachaesh went head over heels paws over tail for it.

Pureformance comes in a total of five flavours: Chicken, Lamb, Rabbit, Goat and Pre-Mix (meat free). Each flavour is bursting with nutrient rich ingredients like chickpeas, flax, vegetables, fruits and a myriad of vitamins. They’re all natural, non-gmo, and gluten free.

The low glycemic index of chickpeas make them ideal for dogs with diabetes that need a slow, but consistent release of food energy. Packed with fibre, antioxidants and protein, these mighty legumes aid in reducing cholesterol and leveling blood sugar. But health aside, they’re also quite yummy.

Grandma Lucys Artisan

The other food we tried was the Artisan line, featuring seven flavours: Chicken, Lamb, Pork, Venison, Bison, Pre-Mix and Chicken & Fish. We tested the Chicken flavour. Like Pureformance, Artisan is all natural, grain free, non-gmo and is suited for all life stages. Where Pureformance features Chickpeas as its prominent ingredient, Artisan highlights potatoes.

The freeze-drying process means that approximately 98% of the raw ingredients’ moisture is forcefully evaporated. When sealed in oxygen-proof packaging this compact food is shelf stable, lightweight and ready when you are.

Comparing the two, you’ll notice  subtle differences in texture. The Pureformance food has a density similar to an instant oatmeal when prepared, whereas Artisan is, unsurprisingly, like instant mashed potatoes. Both contain large meaty chunks in every scoop that , when rehydrated, have the familiar texture of cooked meat. These were Bachaesh’s favourite! In addition to the larger chunks of meat, there is also ground up meat throughout the mixture so that your dog doesn’t pick out only the chunks of meat and leave the rest of the food.

Each recipe also contains an assortment of fruits and vegetables; Sweet Potatoes, Cranberries, Blueberries, Spinach, Garlic… It’s gourmet! (See where they source their ingredients here.)

If I had to choose one over the other, I think I would choose the Pureformance because I  personally like chickpeas over potatoes for Bachaesh’s diet.

But honestly, they’re both  so easy to prepare and contain very similar ingredients… and the bowl gets licked so clean it has been mistaken for one fresh out of the cupboard!

We also  sampled Grandma Lucy’s Organic oven baked dog treats.

Grandma Lucys Organic Treats

Not only do these organic treats come in adorable Teddy Bear shapes, but they’re also apparently delicious because Bachaesh will eat them over other dog treats just about every day!

These Organic treats come in six flavours: Pumpkin, Blueberry, Cranberry, Apple, Banana and Peach.

The ingredient list is short and sweet, human grade, and is one hundred percent recognizable–everything I look for in a dog treat! The treats are Certified Kosher and contain no by-products or preservatives. Annnd all of their packaging is BPA free. Love, love, LOVE!

Grandma Lucy’s has such a terrific lineup of products for whatever life stage your dog is at. Their lightweight, compact food is ideal for home feeding or while travelling, and takes only a couple of minutes to rehydrate.

I love it because it’s easy and nutritious; my dog loves it because it’s meaty and delicious! (See what I did there?)

I would definitely recommend Grandma Lucy’s to pups who are picky eaters, who are watching their waistlines, and even those with busy lifestyles. A single bag of either Pureformance or Artisan  will make over 50lbs of fresh food when rehydrated, so it is incredibly easy to travel with for an extended period of time.

I will definitely be buying Grandma Lucy’s in the future, and I will continue to bring it with us when we travel.
