Your Dog’s Superfood from the Sea

Aqua Veggies- Give a Dog a Bone Blog

For years, vitamin and botanical companies have been using a variety  of sea vegetables in their products as nutritional boosters. Sea vegetables contain one of the broadest ranges of minerals of all foods on the planet. Though they have been popular for a long time, more and more vitamin-packed sea vegetables are being incorporated into peoples’ diets today.

Aqua Veggies, a New Brunswick-based company, has been in the sea vegetable industry for over 15 years! They’re now turning their attention to the health of pets around the world with their individually packaged daily supplement for dogs and cats. Simply open a package in the morning, mix the contents with a little water and your cat or dog’s regular food and Voila!

The sea vegetables in Aqua Veggies’ Superfood from the Sea are the exact same quality as the ones in the Human-grade supplements. The mix has been selected to maximize your pet’s health while still being attentive to the protection of the eco-system. The sustainable ingredients are hand-harvested, sun-dried and are 100% natural.

So, what exactly are sea vegetables, and how do they benefit your pet’s health?

The term sea vegetables refers to the plants growing in the ocean that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. The blend used by Aqua Veggies contains dulse, kelps, wakame, kombu, sea lettuce and nori. (See nutritional breakdown here.)

Some health benefits commonly associated with these sea vegetables include:

  • Aid digestion
  • Boost immunity
  • Heart protection
  • Regulate energy levels
  • Healthy skin & coat
  • Thyroid function for weight control
  • Strong bones, teeth and joints
  • Anti-cancer compound

We were given a one-month supply of Aqua Veggies to try. At first, I was skeptical that Bachaesh would eat “seaweed.” When you first open the packets, there is a seaweed-y scent. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that Bachaesh actually really liked the taste of the Aqua Veggies. In fact, he’d lick all the Aqua Veggies mixture off and leave his kibble on the floor!

We decided to incorporate Aqua Veggies into his diet another way as well– by mixing it with plain, low fat yogurt and freezing it in an ice cube tray. Boy, did he LOVE that! I found it was a great way to cool him down on a hot day while still ensuring he was having a healthy snack.

Our frozen yogurt Aqua Veggies…mmm!

Bachaesh didn’t have any underlying health concerns prior to trying Aqua Veggies, but he was in perfect health afterwards so I can only assume those sea vegetables were doing their job!

I also really liked how Aqua Veggies’ Superfood of the Sea came individually packaged in a one month supply (Brilliant idea!) It was incredibly simple to use, and I didn’t have to measure anything. If I had been travelling with Bachaesh at the time of testing, it would have been easy to take the exact number of packets needed with us.
